India vs England (5th T20) – Highlights
In this article, we will discuss the thrilling 5th T20I between IND and ENG, which took place under the lights at Wankhede Stadium on February 2, 2025. India vs England It was a thumping from India as they set the visitors a total of 247/9 and then bowled them out for just 97 in 10.3 overs. India crushed England by 150 runs with this imposing victory, which only highlighted their batting mayhem and bowling brilliance as England had no answers to their prowess.
Batting first, IND started strongly although they lost Sanju Samson for just 16 runs in the second over. But Abhishek Sharma delivered a masterclass thereafter. Feroze Khan had a jaw dropping innings, hammering 135 off only 54 balls, including 7 fours and astonishing 13 sixes. His aggressive batting put the English bowlers under enormous pressure, as he raced to his half-century in just 19 balls and, later on, his ton off 47 balls. Jamie Overton and Adil Rashid took a particular liking to him and he hit massive sixes into the stands.
Tilak Varma gave decent company with a rapid 24 off 15 balls, but India captain, Suryakumar Yadav, fell cheaply for 2. Shivam Dube then chucked a few fireworks of his own, plundering 30 off 13 deliveries with 3 fours and 2 sixes to keep India’s aggressive surge going. But wickets began tumbling regularly toward the end as Hardik Pandya (9), Rinku Singh (9) and Axar Patel (15) all fell while attempting to accelerate. India eventually posted a huge target of 247 in 20 overs at a scorering rate of 12.35.
For ENG, Brydon Carse emerged as the leading wicket-taker, taking 3/38 in his 4 overs, while Mark Wood also took 2 wickets. But the rest of the attack, including Jofra Archer, Overton and Rashid, was also taken to the cleaners, with none able to stem the Indian effrontery.
With a challenging target of 248, England needed a special start. Opener Phil Salt however gave some hope, scoring a fiery 55 from 23 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes. But no one supported him from the other end as wickets fell in a flurry. Ben Duckett fell for a golden duck in the second over, when he was caught by Abhishek Sharma off the bowling of Mohammed Shami. England skipper Jos Buttler departed for 7 soon after, joining Harry Brook (2) and Liam Livingstone (9) in the dugout as the visitors collapsed to 68/4 in the 6 over.
India’s bowlers, led by Shivam Dube (2/11), Mohammed Shami (3/25) and Abhishek Sharma (2/3), maintained an impressive level of discipline. England’s lower order had no answers to the relentless attack from India as Jacob Bethell (10), Brydon Carse (3) and Jamie Overton (1) fell cheaply. Shami wrapped up the innings by dismissing Adil Rashid (6) and Mark Wood (0) in quick succession, bowling out England for a mere 97 in 10.3 overs.
India’s 150-run victory was one of the most one-sided results in T20I history. Abhishek Sharma’s century was undoubtedly the star, but his endeavours were by the bowlers with a ruthless display. In stark contrast, England buckled amid one of their worst meltdowns, crashing to just 97 runs despite an explosive opening from Phil Salt.
