Cricket Highlights, Dec 17: Bangladesh tour of West Indies 2024 (2nd T20) – Bangladesh vs West Indies

BAN vs WI (2nd T20) – Highlights

In this article, we will discuss the thrilling 2nd T20I between BAN and WI, held in Kingstown on December 17, 2024, as part of Bangladesh’s tour of the West Indies. Bangladesh displayed a commanding performance, successfully defending a modest total of 129/7 to secure a convincing 27-run victory over the hosts. The match showcased a blend of disciplined bowling, sharp fielding, and some critical batting contributions from Bangladesh, which ultimately proved too much for the West Indies.

The 2nd T20I between Bangladesh and the West Indies in Kingstown unfolded as a gripping low-scoring affair, with Bangladesh emerging victorious by 27 runs. Defending a modest target of 130, Bangladesh’s disciplined bowling performance dismantled the West Indies batting lineup, showcasing a well-rounded team effort.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh opted to bat first but faced early setbacks. Captain Litton Das fell cheaply for 3, stumped off Akeal Hosein’s clever bowling. Tanzid Hasan (2) and Soumya Sarkar (11) struggled to find momentum, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 39/3 in the ninth over.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz anchored the innings briefly with a composed 26 off 25, supported by Jaker Ali, who contributed a handy 21 from 20 balls. However, Bangladesh found themselves at 88/7 by the 16th over, with Gudakesh Motie’s tight spell (4-0-25-2) causing significant damage.

The late surge came from Shamim Hossain, whose blistering 35 not out off just 17 balls, including two fours and two sixes, propelled Bangladesh to 129/7 in their 20 overs. His aggressive approach, complemented by Tanzim Hasan Sakib’s unbeaten 9, proved critical in adding crucial runs at the back end. The West Indies bowlers, led by Hosein (1/16) and Motie, bowled with precision, but their fielding lapses allowed BAN to claw back into the game.

Chasing 130, the WI struggled right from the start. Taskin Ahmed struck early, dismissing Brandon King (8) and Andre Fletcher (0) within the first three overs. Mahedi Hasan then trapped Johnson Charles (14) and Nicholas Pooran (5) in quick succession, leaving the hosts at a precarious 32/4. Captain Rovman Powell (6) failed to steady the innings, falling to Hasan Mahmud as wickets continued to tumble.

Roston Chase tried to rebuild with a gritty 32 off 34 balls, hitting a six and a four, but lacked support from the other end. Akeal Hosein’s spirited 31 off 31, including two sixes, kept the faint hope alive, but once he fell to Taskin Ahmed, the chase unraveled. The West Indies were bowled out for 102 in 18.3 overs, falling short by 27 runs.

Bangladesh’s bowlers were exceptional, with Taskin Ahmed (3/16) leading the charge. Tanzim Hasan Sakib (2/22) and Rishad Hossain (2/12) provided excellent support, ensuring no West Indies batter settled into a rhythm. This victory showcased Bangladesh’s resilience and teamwork, leveling the series and setting up an exciting decider.
