The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had a tough match against Delhi Capitals (DC) and came out victorious by a close 14 runs. In the 48th match of the Indian Premier League at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 28, 2025 this was a first class match featuring lots of big hitting, smart bowling with a couple of moments of smart fielding, but KKR always looked comfortable due to the all-rounder performance of Sunil Narine! Narine was awarded the Player of the Match award for his performance with the bat and with the ball!
In the first innings, KKR scored 204 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. KKR started briskly. Rahmanullah Gurbaz opened with a blistering 26 from just 12 with KKR really going for it, trying to keep up with the quickly moving inning. Sunil Narine was promoted up the order, scoring 27 of 16 balls, KKR were hitting several mid-wicket blasts, with KKR found itself hitting sixes on a regular basis. The final wicket was maybe fell with Ajinkya Rahane who scored 26 from 14 balls the captain just wanted to set an example. The main man for KKR was Angkrish Raghuvanshi who made 44 runs from 32 balls in leading or building the KKR score.
In the middle order, Rinku Singh once again proved his finishing credentials with a composed 36 from 25 deliveries. Andre Russell and Rovman Powell chipped in with brief cameos to push the total past 200. DC’s bowling lacked consistency, although Mitchell Starc stood out with 3 wickets, despite going for 43 runs in his four overs. Axar Patel was economical and picked up two wickets, while young Vipraj Nigam also claimed a couple but was expensive.
Chasing 205, Delhi Capitals lost Abishek Porel in the first over. However, seasoned campaigner Faf du Plessis got the innings back on track with a picturesque 62 off 45 balls. When Karun Nair and KL Rahul went cheaply, DC were in a spot of bother, but captain Axar Patel joined in du Plessis, and they counter attacked quickly, launching an assault of 43 off 23. The partnership got DC back in the game, but just as quickly as they built momentum, both batters were dismiss by Sunil Narine and swung the game back in KKR’s favor.
Despite a valiant effort from Vipraj Nigam, who smashed 38 off 19 balls down the order, the Capitals couldn’t quite keep up with the required rate. Varun Chakravarthy and Andre Russell bowled crucial overs at the death, with Russell claiming a key wicket and Varun finishing with 2 for 39. Narine once again proved his value, finishing with excellent figures of 3 for 29 in his four overs, including the wickets of du Plessis and Axar Patel, which turned out to be the turning point.
