CSK vs MI (38th Match) – Highlights
In a high-pressure IPL 2025 match held at the Wankhede Stadium, the Mumbai Indians bowled out the Chennai Super Kings by 9 wickets in the 38th match of the season. Anything can happen in the IPL, and a 177 total can be a tricky run-chase, but the way Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav made it look effortless as they destroyed the CSK attack in this run-chase in the match up, was truly sensational and helped MI get home with 26 balls to spare.
The Chennai Super Kings had a tough beginning after the opposition call the toss and CSK batted first in what proved to be a competitive 176 for 5 in 20 overs. Pending their efforts in the field, as improbable as it seems, a chase was on and CSK were faced with the facts of life: loss of both openers in Rasheed and Ravindra, who made 19 off 20 and 5 off 9, respectively.
More fortunate however a passionate and vigorous young buck like Ayush Mhatre who in various occasions had proven to be an unknown source of greatness in a IPL environment brought the fire for the CSK camp with a blistering fast 32 off a grand looking 15 balls, with 4 fours and 2 sixes.
The tide turned when Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube took centre stage and played their shots freely in the middle overs. Jadeja’s studious 53* off 35 balls anchored the innings, and Dube’s exciting 50 off 32 balls kicked the CSK total into the late 180s.
MS Dhoni came to the crease at the death overs, and things were never really going to favour CSK as he could only add 4 runs to the firepower. Jamie Overton came out to finish the innings off, and while only managing a couple of runs, CSK had posted a score that looked, on paper at least, defendable.
Mumbai’s bowlers had mixed returns, with Jasprit Bumrah being the standout yet again. His four overs yielded just 25 runs along with two crucial wickets, including that of Dube. Mitchell Santner and Deepak Chahar picked up one wicket each, while Ashwani Kumar, despite being expensive, managed to dismiss the dangerous Mhatre. Trent Boult was slightly off-color, conceding 43 runs in his four overs.
In reply, Mumbai Indians started briskly with openers Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma setting the tone early. Rickelton played a handy cameo of 24 off 19 balls before falling to Jadeja. What followed was an absolute masterclass in T20 batting from Rohit and Suryakumar Yadav.
Rohit Sharma was an anchor, pacing his innings to perfection, and ended up unbeaten on 76 from 45 deliveries, hitting four boundaries and clearing the ropes six times, and that was class shown at home. However, the carnage due to the bat of Suryakumar Yadav was something else. In what can be arguably described as one of the most aggressive innings in this year’s IPL, SKY bludgeoned 68 not out in just 30 balls, hammering the boundaries with 6 fours and 5 sixes.
The duo stitched together an unbroken partnership of 114 runs that took the game away from CSK in clinical fashion. With both form and flair, Mumbai reached the target in just 15.4 overs, sending a strong message to the rest of the league.
