Zimbabwe has made changes to the fixtures for the upcoming home series against Afghanistan in December-January. The move comes in the wake of garnering more interest from fans by scheduling some of the games on the weekends.
The T20I matches, which were previously scheduled for December 9, 11, and 12, will now commence on (Wednesday) December 11. The following games will take place on (Friday) December 13, and (Saturday) December 14. Speaking of the ODI series, the original dates of which were December 15, 17 and 19, will now be played on December 17 (Tuesday), 19 (Thursday) and 21 (Saturday).
Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director Givemore Makoni reasoned the same as an opportunity for fans to “experience top-level cricket”.
“We understand the passion our fans have for the game, and we want to give as many people as possible the chance to experience top-level cricket. Moving key matches to the weekend ensures better access for spectators, enhancing the atmosphere at Harare Sports Club,” said Makoni as quoted by ICC.
However, no changes have been made in the scheduling of the Test series as Zimbabwe prepares for its first Boxing Day Test since the one against England in 1996. The Boxing Day encounter will be played from December 26 to 30 in Bulawayo and will be followed by the New Year’s Test from January 2 to 6 at the same venue.
