Zimbabwe players out of India stranding, players to return home in batches as ICC arranges alternate travel option

In a major development, Zimbabwe are finally on their way back home after ending their run at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The side was stuck in India after flight disruptions amid the ongoing war-like situation across the world.

Since the air traffic at the Dubai airport, which is a usual halt for a flight back to Harare, was suspended for commercial operations, the team had to stay back in India and wait a little longer to return home. Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) made the announcement official in the evening hours of Wednesday, March 04, making the details of their players’ departure from the host nation to Harare.

“Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) confirms that the Zimbabwe senior men’s team participating in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 are on their way home from India after the International Cricket Council secured alternative travel arrangements following recent transit disruptions,” the board said via a social media post.

“Due to flight availability and revised routing, the squad will return to Harare in batches. The first group of players departed India today, Wednesday, while the final group is scheduled to leave on Friday afternoon. Further updates will be issued if necessary,” the statement read further.

Speaking of the Chevrons’ campaign in the twenty-team tournament, they started the T20 World Cup with a fantastic run in the group stages. They defeated Australia, Sri Lanka, and Oman from Group B, whereas their match against Ireland was abandoned due to rain. They topped their group to make a thunderous entry into the Super Eights, surprising cricket fans with their fearless brand of cricket.

However, the moment it came to the Super Eights, the Sikandar Raza-led side lost the rhythm and failed to win a single match where they had gone up against the might of the West Indies, India, and South Africa. They faced mammoth defeats across the phase and had to make a disappointing exit from the tournament, despite looking quite promising for making it further in the global event.
