WPL Auction 2024: 5 Capped players who have kept their base price less

The player list for the 2024 Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction has been announced, with a total of 165 cricketers set to go under the hammer on December 9. Before the auction, 60 players from five teams, including 21 overseas players, were retained, while 29 cricketers were removed from their current rosters.

The WPL 2024 Player Auction features 104 Indians and 61 international cricketers, including 15 from associate nations. The list also includes 56 capped players and 109 uncapped cricketers. Each squad is limited to 30 players, with nine spots allotted for international players.

Interestingly, multiple experienced and capped international players have decided to keep their base price pretty low to find a team in the WPL 2024 auction. And we take a look at 5 such players who are vying for a team for WPL 2024 and have lowered their base price.

5 Capped players who have kept their base price less in WPL Auction 2024:

Lea Tahuhu- INR 30 Lakh

New Zealand pacer Lea Tahuhu is often considered to be the fastest bowler in women’s cricket. She regularly hits the high 120-125 kph. Surprisingly, she had gone unsold despite keeping her base price low at INR 30 lakhs.

In 79 Women’s T20Is, Tahuhu has 78 wickets with a best of 4/6 at an economy of 6.01. In the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), she has played six seasons so far and has also clinched 57 wickets in 70 matches at a decent economy of 6.12.

Danielle Wyatt- INR 30 Lakh

England’s Danielle Wyatt was another well-known name, who went unsold in the WPL 2023 auction. She has vast experience not only in international cricket but also in T20 league cricket.

She has played 149 WT20Is, scoring 2527 runs with two centuries and 12 fifties with a best of 124. In T20 league cricket, she has played for Melbourne Renegades in WBBL, Southern Brave in Hundred, Southern Vipers, and Velocity.  

Inoka Ranaweera- INR 30 Lakh

Inoka Ranaweera, 37, has been a pillar of Sri Lankan women’s team bowling. Having made her debut in 2012, Ranaweera has picked 88 wickets in 78 WT20Is with a best of 4/7 and an economy of just 5.77. Her latest outing was in the Asian Games Hangzhou where she picked 2/21 against India in the final gold medal match.

Having played 73 WODIs, she has 75 wickets to her name with a stunning economy of 4.45 and she can be expected to play a vital role in the upcoming season of WPL.

Tammy Beaumont – INR 30 Lakh

Beaumont has extensive experience with 1721 runs in 99 WT20Is with a best of 116 and an average of 40. She has played in T20 league cricket as well, turning out for Melbourne Renegades and Syndey Thunder in WBBL.

She also played for London Spirit and Welsh Fire in the Hundred. Keeping a lower base price might help Beaumont get a WPL deal as well.

Chamari Athapaththu- INR 30 Lakh

Chamari Athapaththu is undoubtedly the greatest Sri Lanka women’s batter of all time. With 2651 runs in 122 WT20Is and the best of 113, she has carried the Sri Lanka batting often single-handedly. Apart from Sri Lanka, she has turned out for Melbourne Renegades, Perth Scorchers, Guyana Amazon Warriors, and Syndey Thunder Women in the T20 leagues.

She has also played for Supernovas in the Women’s T20 challenge, which preceded the WPL. She had gone unsold in the WPL 2023 auction, but this time has lowered her base price to entice franchises into bidding for him.
