WPL 2024 Match 6 Highlights: Mumbai Indians Women vs UP Warriorz Women Recap

After two losses, UP Warriorz finally managed to earn their first points in the Women’s Premier League by beating defending champions Mumbai Indians Women by seven wickets in Match 06 on Wednesday, February 28. After being put in to bat first, Mumbai posted a good score of 161/6 in their allotted 20 overs riding on a half-century from Hayley Matthews.

Grace Harris was the pick of the bowlers for UP with figures of 1/20 in four overs. In reply, UP chased down the target in 16.3 overs as Alyssa Healy (33 off 29), Kiran Navgire, Harris (38* off 17) and Deepti Sharma (27* off 20) all made valuable contributions.

1. Hayley Matthews shines with the bat

The Mumbai Indians opener put on a brilliant opening stand with Yastika Bhatia of 50 runs off 48 balls for the first wicket. After losing her partner, she continued to hold one end and brought up her first half-century of the season. Matthews scored 55 (47) with the help of nine fours and a six.

2. Kiran Navgire unleashes her wrath on MI

The opening batter walked out to the middle to finish the game in a hurry smacking the MI bowlers left-right and centre. Navgire got involved in a massive opening stand of 94 off 56 balls with Alyssa Healy as she raced to her half-century off 25 balls. She ended up scoring 57 (31) with the help of six fours and four sixes to get UP off to a blistering start.

3. Issy Wong’s all-round show

Playing her first game of the season, the 21-year-old shone with both and ball for MI. Wong first played a quick-cameo of 15 (6) with the bat clobbering one four and a six. She later picked two wickets in her second over sending Tahlia McGrath (1 off 4) and Alyssa Healy (33 off 29) back in the pavilion to bring UP back in the game. The England seamer was the pick of the bowlers for MI as she registered figures of 2/30 in three overs.
