In an exclusive conversation with CricTracker, the breakout star from the 2012 Under-19 World Cup Unmukt Chand shared his thoughts on playing under legendary India cricketer Rohit Sharma’s leadership during the Indian Premier League. He described Rohit as a calm personality and a strong leader who understands his players well and gives them the freedom to express themselves.

The New Delhi-born also revealed that he wanted both Rohit and former captain Virat Kohli to feature in the ODI World Cup 2027. He added that he admires the way the two stalwarts approach the game and respects their consistency over the years, without showing any bias toward their recent performances.

Excerpts from the interview

You played under Rohit Sharma in the IPL. What was the best piece of advice you received from him?

Well, playing against Rohit was very nice. We won the 2015 IPL as well under his leadership. Again, he is a very calm guy. He doesn’t get very put out under difficult situations. He is a calm head, and obviously, he is a magician on the field in terms of batting.

But I feel overall he is a very good leader in terms of understanding his players, giving them the space to operate and be the best versions of themselves rather than trying to impose his own self in front of the players. You should also tell me to play the way I play and not the way he would want me to play. Be the best version of yourself

Do you think Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma should play the ODI World Cup 2027?

Well, I am a fan of both. So I really love both of them, the way they play, the way they have played over the last few years. I don’t have too much bias towards them. So I would want them to play for sure.
