How did Match 16 of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 go between England Women and Scotland Women?

England Women (ENG W) have registered their third consecutive win of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, nearly confirming a spot for the semi-finals already by defeating Scotland Women (SCO W) by a 38-run margin on Saturday, June 20, at Headingley in Leeds. The game had started with the Scottish side electing to field first after winning the toss.

England had a dreadful start, losing Amy Jones on the first ball of the match. However, there were no further hiccups till the end of the powerplay. The moment the field restrictions were lifted, Danni Wyatt-Hodge also made her way back to the pavillion. Sophia Dunkley and Alice Capsey batted brilliantly through the middle overs, while Freya Kemp’s and Dani Gibson’s cameos at the end took the total to 200 for 5.

The run chase got underway with a decent start by the Scottish openers. However, all the hosts needed was a stroke of luck to pull things back in their favour. Once the first breakthrough came in the fourth over, none of them could really form a partnership to steer through to the target. Valiant efforts from the Scotts were not enough, as they eventually fell short by 38 runs despite having a few wickets in hand.

Best Batting Performance of the Match: Sophia Dunkley

A wicket on the first ball of the innings called Sophia Dunkley to the crease, and it seemed she came well set from the dugout itself. With eight boundaries and a six during her entertaining stay at the crease, Dunkley went on to accumulate 57 runs off just 37 deliveries. Her partnership with Capsey (40 off 25) was extremely crucial in the Englishwomen posting a huge total. The platform set by Dunkley also allowed Freya Kemp (39* off 16) and Dani Gibson (30* off 11) to play with an attacking mindset towards the end.

Best Bowling Performance of the Match: Sophie Ecclestone

It has almost become a routine for Sophie Ecclestone to be at the top of her game every time she steps onto the field. Her four-over spell against Scotland resulted in a couple of significant breakthroughs in the form of skipper Kathryn Bryce, which came in the very first over she bowled. Later on, she also accounted for the fall of Darcey Carter, who was looking dangerous and was well set before departing for 29 off 23.

Records Broken and Major Milestones Achieved

  • 47-run partnership between Gordon and Pippa Sproul in today’s match was the highest for the seventh wicket for Scotland in WT20Is. They went past Chatterji’s and Rachel Slater’s 44.
  • A total of 362 runs were scored in today’s match (200 by England and 162 by Scotland), which is the highest match aggregate for England and Scotland in a WT20I encounter.

Who won the Player of the Match award?

For her brilliant performance with the bat at number three, Sophia Dunkley was named the Player of the Match in the Saturday fixture. Her knock has almost confirmed a semi-finale berth for the English side, as they remain unbeaten with only two more games to go in their group-stage campaign of the global competition.

When is the next match?

The next clash in the marquee T20 event will see Sri Lanka and the West Indies face off at the County Ground in Bristol. This clash will be followed by a thriller between India and South Africa at Old Trafford. Scotland will play their next game against New Zealand on Tuesday, while England have their next lined up against the Caribbeans on June 24.
