India star Rishabh Pant showed a heart of steel as he walked out to bat with a fractured toe during the fourth Test against England. The wicketkeeper-batter faced a severe toe injury as a ball from Chris Woakes hit his right leg during the first innings of the Old Trafford Test. The amount of time he spent at the crease proved to be crucial, as the Indians were able to reach a respectable first innings total.

The ace cricketer is now ruled out of the series-deciding fifth Test and has been replaced by Narayan Jagadeesan. Pant has now taken to his official social media handle to thank his well-wishers and fans for the care and concern on his injury. He will now fly back home and soon start his rehabilitation. The Haridwar-born also added that he is eager to return to international cricket as soon as possible.

“Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way. It’s been a real source of strength. I will begin rehab once my fracture heals, and I am slowly settling into the process. Staying patient, following the routines and giving it my 100%. Playing for the country has always been the proudest moment of my life. Can’t wait to be back doing what I love,” he wrote in his post on X.

Pant was India’s force to be reckoned with for the ongoing England tour. With his unfortunate ouster, he will have to sign off from the tour with 479 runs from seven innings at an astonishing average of 68.42. As of now, Pant is only behind his captain Shubman Gill and KL Rahul, who have scored 722 and 511 runs in the series, respectively. Pant will walk away from the tour with two centuries and three half-centuries. Hopefully, he will be back in action for the Indian team’s next red-ball assignment.

When are India scheduled to play Tests next?

Post the conclusion of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, Test cricket fans will have to wait for another couple of months to see the Baggy Blues back in action. In October this year, they will be inviting the West Indies for a two-match Test series with games scheduled in Ahmedabad and New Delhi, respectively. In between, India will also play the Asia Cup, which is scheduled to take place in September.
