Having not featured for the West Indies in an international game since August 2019, Sunil Narine finally decided to call it a day as far as his representing West Indies was concerned, making an official statement in November last year.
Talking about this year’s IPL, the West Indian all-rounder’s been in fine nick for the Kolkata Knight Riders, accumulating 286 runs in 7 innings at a blistering strike rate of 176.54, having notched up a half-century and a century apiece. His performances with the ball haven’t been bad either, with him taking nine wickets in seven innings at a miserly economy rate of 7.10.
Following his promising start to the campaign, West Indian skipper, Rovmann Powell, featuring for the Rajasthan Royals, tried coercing Narine into overruling his retirement and representing the nation for the imminent T20 World Cup to be co-hosted by the West Indies and the USA in June later this year.

However, Narine took to Instagram on Monday to express that he had come to terms with his decision to retire from international cricket.
The first slide of Narine’s Instagram post conveyed that he was overjoyed and admired a whole lot of people being moved by his recent outings on the cricket field and for them to voice their wish for him to come out of retirement and play the upcoming T20 World Cup.
On the other hand, the second slide saw him conveying his best wishes for the West Indian team to partake in the T20 World Cup 2024 and potentially win another title for their fans. He also admitted that he’d rather take the back seat and cheer for the group, a lot of the players in the unit having given it their all since the past few months and deserved to be a part of the structure.
