The IPL 2026 mini auction produced several big moments, but the biggest was around Cameron Green. The Australian all-rounder became the most sought-after player of the auction, drawing a whopping 117 bids, the highest for any player, and eventually becoming the most expensive overseas signing in IPL history. His final price of INR 25.20 crore, paid by Kolkata Knight Riders, has made him the player with the most bids in IPL 2026 mini-auction.
Green entered the auction with a base price of INR 2 crore, and instantly triggered a bidding war. Mumbai Indians, his former franchise, kick-started the bidding, despite him missing the 2025 season due to back surgery. Rajasthan Royals soon joined in, and within minutes, as the price soared past INR 8 crore, turning the contest into a three-team battle, including KKR.
As the numbers climbed, Royals stretched their purse to the limit, pushing the bid beyond INR 13 crore, over 80 percent of their available budget, before bowing out. Kolkata Knight Riders, having the biggest purse at the auction, locked horns with Chennai Super Kings, making it one of the fiercest bidding wars in IPL auction history.
CSK entered late but and repeatedly matched KKR’s raises as the bid crossed the INR 18 crore mark, a threshold over which additional money goes into the IPL’s player welfare fund due to overseas salary caps. What followed was a rapid exchange of bids, with paddles going up almost instantly as the price crossed INR 20 crore.
The back-and-forth between KKR and CSK lasted for a long time into the auction trail, with neither franchise willing to let go of the Aussie. The price finally peaked at INR 25.20 crore when CSK chose to step back, allowing KKR to secure Green after an exhausting sequence of bids.
In 29 IPL matches, Green has scored runs at an average of over 41 with a strike rate exceeding 150. His past stints with the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, along with his return to full fitness, made him a crucial asset.
