After kicking off their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a hard-fought win over the USA in Mumbai, the Indian team has now moved to New Delhi for their second Group A fixture. India has played four T20Is at the Arun Jaitley Stadium so far, winning two and losing two. Their most recent outing at the venue came in October 2024, when they defeated Bangladesh by 86 runs. However, the record hasn’t always tilted in their favour. In June 2022, South Africa beat India by seven wickets in Delhi. Earlier, in November 2019, Bangladesh registered a seven-wicket win, a rare T20I victory for them over India on Indian soil. India’s first T20I at the venue dates back to November 2017, when they beat New Zealand by 53 runs.

India’s 29-run win over the USA at the Wankhede Stadium wasn’t easy for the hosts. The Men in Blue suffered a top-order collapse and were staring at an embarrassing start to their campaign. However, skipper Suryakumar Yadav smashed 84 to rescue India and guide them to 161/9. In reply, India’s bowlers held their nerve, with Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, and Axar’s regular wickets restricted USA to 132/8.

Sanju, Bumrah to return for Namibia clash

Heading into the Delhi game, India has a few fitness concerns. Opener Abhishek Sharma has been hospitalised due to a stomach infection and remains doubtful for the Namibia clash. Sanju Samson is in line to replace him if he fails to recover in time. Samson trained in Delhi and could partner with Ishan Kishan at the top. The good news for India is the likely return of Jasprit Bumrah. After missing the USA game due to illness, Bumrah bowled at full tilt in training and is set to strengthen the pace attack.
