England are set to begin their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against Nepal on February 8, 2026, at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Led by Harry Brook, England will once again rely on the experience and firepower of Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Jofra Archer, and Sam Curran as they look to make a strong start in the tournament.
They have already lifted the T20 World Cup trophy twice, in 2010 and 2022 and enter the tenth edition of the competition with a golden opportunity to create history. With 20 teams competing for the title, England will be aiming to become the first nation to win the T20 World Cup three times. However, success at the Wankhede Stadium has not always come easily for the English side, and their record at the venue reflects a mixed bag of results.
What is England’s record at the Wankhede Stadium in T20Is?

England have played four T20Is at the Wankhede Stadium, winning two and losing two. Their first appearance came in 2012 during their tour of India. In the second T20I of the series, England chased down India’s total of 177/8 to win by six wickets, with Michael Lumb scoring 50 and Eoin Morgan remaining unbeaten on 49.
Their next outing at the venue came during the T20 World Cup 2016, where they suffered a six-wicket defeat against West Indies. Despite posting a strong total of 182/6, England were undone by a breathtaking unbeaten century from Chris Gayle, who guided the West Indies to victory.
Later in the same tournament, England produced one of the most memorable chases in T20 World Cup history at the Wankhede. South Africa posted a mammoth 229/4, powered by half-centuries from Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, and Jean-Paul Duminy. England, however, chased the target successfully, thanks largely to Joe Root’s brilliant 83.
England’s most recent appearance at the venue came against India in 2025, a match they will be keen to forget. India piled on 247/9, with Abhishek Sharma smashing 135, before bowling England out for just 97 despite Phil Salt’s valiant 55. As they return to Wankhede for the 2026 World Cup, England will be eager to assert early dominance and open their points-table account on a positive note.
