India are set to meet England in the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-final on March 5 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. With a place in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 8 at stake, both teams will be eager to deliver their best performance.
Their most recent high-stakes encounter came in the semi-final of the 2024 T20 World Cup at the Providence Stadium. On that occasion, India produced a commanding all-round performance to outplay England and march into the final.
Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 171/7 in their 20 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma led by example with a fluent 57 off 39 balls, striking six fours and two sixes at a brisk strike rate. He was well supported by Suryakumar Yadav, who compiled 47 runs, while Hardik Pandya chipped in with a quick 23 off 13 deliveries. Rohit and Suryakumar built a crucial 73-run partnership for the third wicket, setting the foundation for a challenging total. For England, Chris Jordan was the standout bowler with figures of 3/37.
England’s chase never truly gained momentum. They were bowled out for 103 in just 16.4 overs, falling well short of the target. Harry Brook top-scored with 25, while skipper Jos Buttler managed 23. Jofra Archer added 21, but the rest of the batting line-up struggled against India’s disciplined bowling attack.
The Indian bowlers were exceptional. Axar Patel claimed 3/23, Kuldeep Yadav returned 3/19, and Jasprit Bumrah delivered a tight spell of 2/12 to seal a comprehensive win.
India went on to defeat South Africa in the final, lifting their second T20 World Cup title. As defending champions, they will look to repeat that success against England once again. In the current World Cup, South Africa and New Zealand are battling out in semi-final one on March 4 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata and the winner will qualify for final which is scheduled on March 8 in Ahmedabad.
