West Indies announce squad for Nepal T20 tour, Roston Chase to lead

West Indies A squad is set to tour Nepal for a five-game T20I series in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, which is scheduled to begin from June 2. 

The tour of Nepal will be the first for the Windies in the country, and ahead of the series, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the squad. 

Part of the squad, Roston Chase will be leading the Windies with the likes of Fabian Allen, Johnson Charles, Mark Deyal, Andre Fletcher, Obed McCoy, and Hayden Walsh, with Alick Athanaze as the vice captain of the side.

Ahead of the series, the West Indies’ lead selector, Desmond Haynes, talked about how the five-game affair could help the players not competing in the IPL prepare for the World Cup. 

“It presents an invaluable opportunity to get our players who are not in the IPL back on the park playing competitive T20 cricket, as well as provides the chance for us to expose a few emerging prospects,” Haynes was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Nepal tour couldn’t have come at a more opportune time: Daren Sammy

With the announcement of the squad, West Indies’ head coach, Daren Sammy, spoke about how the timing of the tour to Nepal is perfect and it could not have come at a better time for the side.

“From a coaching perspective, the Nepal tour couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. It offers us a chance to refine our World Cup squad, defining roles and personnel more clearly. Additionally, with nine players in the IPL, we can truly gauge and push the limits of our T20 team’s depth,” Daren Sammy said.
