‘We’ll do it differently’ – Alex Carey confirms Australia not tempted to follow England’s ‘Bazball’ approach in Ashes

With the World Test Championship final and the Ashes series right around the corner, Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey has come forward to give a cue on the Kangaroos’ approach going into the much-anticipated series against Ben Stokes’ England.

With the first Test of the Ashes series scheduled to be played from June 16 in Edgbaston, Birmingham, Carey has opined that Australia would be looking to go into the series with the way they have been playing in the red-ball format lately.

Widely renowned for playing ‘Bazball’ cricket, England’s approach in the red-ball circuit has worked wonders for them in recent times. Talking about taking England on, Carey mentioned that he would like to think that the Aussies would not be surprised by the way that England will play.

“We’ve heard some stuff in the media what the wickets might be like, the boundaries, etc, [and] the way [England] are playing at the moment, it is eye-catching. I’d like to think we aren’t surprised now [with] the way they’ll come out and play,” Carey told SEN Radio.

With the much-anticipated Ashes series to be played in the Three Lions’ backyard, it is only natural that the mind games would begin in the coming weeks. With England’s aggressive style of play, the Pat Cummins-led Australia would be keen on finding ways to counter England’s style of play.

“The tactical stuff will start to take place over the next couple of weeks, but I don’t see us falling into our batters going out and trying to score at the same rate. We’ll do it differently, we’ve had some serious success in the last 18-24 months playing the style we want to play in different conditions and lucky enough to be rewarded with a spot in the World Test Championship [final],” Carey said.

“We are excited to come over to their backyard and take on a team that’s playing some really eye-catching cricket. As a player, it’s going to be hot contest, and I’m smiling just thinking about that first Test,” he concluded.
