‘Well deserved and well won’ – Vijay Mallya hails RCB Women after WPL 2026 triumph

Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru owner Vijay Mallya extended his congratulations to the RCB Women’s team after their triumphant WPL 2026 campaign, hailing their achievement as both well-earned and inspirational. Mallya praised the side for securing their second Women’s Premier League title and described the victory as a moment of pride for the RCB franchise.

“Heartiest congratulations to the RCB women’s WPL team. Two championships in succession. Well deserved and well won. Motivation to the RCB Men’s team as well to retain the trophy.” Mallya wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

He acknowledged the consistency and dominance displayed by the team across season. His message also carried a broader sentiment, with the former owner expressing hope that the women’s success would serve as motivation for the RCB men’s side to defend their title in their respective competition.

Last year, RCB ended an 18-year wait to clinch their maiden IPL title under the leadership of Rajat Patidar. Dominant throughout the season, Bengaluru capped off their campaign with a commanding victory over Punjab Kings in the final, marking a historic moment for the franchise.

RCB Women clinched their latest WPL title in a high-octane final that highlighted their calm under pressure. Chasing a daunting target of 204, the early loss of Grace Harris briefly tested them, but what followed was a commanding turnaround led by captain Smriti Mandhana and Georgia Voll.

Mandhana set the tone with a blistering 87 off 41 balls, while Voll anchored the chase with a composed 79 from 54 deliveries. Their partnership dismantled Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack and ensured RCB stayed firmly in control of the chase. Radha Yadav later applied the finishing touches to seal the win.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals had put up a strong total through fluent knocks from skipper Jemimah Rodrigues, who scored 57 off 37 balls, and Laura Wolvaardt, who added 44 off 25 before providing late momentum with a rapid 35 off 15. Despite the strong platform, DC were unable to contain RCB’s batting onslaught.

The win marked RCB’s second WPL title, following their maiden triumph in 2024, and further cemented their growing legacy as one of the most successful teams in the league’s short history.
