[WATCH] ‘What else do you need?’ – India players share excitement ahead of historic first-ever Women’s Test at Lord’s

The Indian women’s team is on the verge of scripting history as they prepare to take on England in the first-ever Women’s Test to be played at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. Ahead of the landmark fixture, several members of the Indian camp shared their emotions about playing at the ‘Home of Cricket’, describing it as a dream come true and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a special video featuring the players reflecting on what it means to represent India at one of the sport’s most iconic venues.

Middle-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues revealed that one of her earliest memories associated with Lord’s was watching former India captain Sourav Ganguly celebrate India’s famous NatWest Trophy triumph in 2002.

“Lords, I think my most fond memory of watching a match at Lords was Saurav Ganguly. He waved his t-shirt and, yeah, and doing that, I think, yeah,” Jemimah said in a video released by the BCCI.

She also spoke about the emotions of finally getting the opportunity to play at the historic venue.

“Just looking outside, I went to the balcony, sat out for some time, just sinking it all in, because it’s a very historic thing for those who don’t know about cricket. Lords is where it all started. It’s like a heritage kind of thing for cricket, and I think it’s crazy, and yeah, I still, every time I come here, it’s just like, it’s the same kind of thing,” she continued.

India pacer Renuka Singh admitted that the possibility of getting her name on the famous Lord’s honours board is a huge source of motivation heading into the historic Test.

“Let’s see what happens, because I’ve heard that Lords has a name on the board, so obviously, if it’s the first test, it’s going to be memorable, so if I get a five-wicket haul, what else do you need?”

All-rounder Deepti Sharma also expressed her excitement about being part of the first-ever Women’s Test at Lord’s, calling it a special moment in her career.

“First-ever women’s Test match at Lords. There’s nothing better than this, and it’s my favourite ground, so I’m very excited to play here, and I’m just waiting for the first day, when we’ll play with the Red ball,” Deepti said.
