The spin duo of Varun Chakravarthy and Washington Sundar were seen doing a ‘Girivalam’ following India’s triumph at the 2026 T20 World Cup on Sunday, March 08, after beating New Zealand in the final by 96 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Girivalam is a sacred act practised in the holy city of Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu. The act consists of walking barefoot around Arunachala Hill for approximately 14 kilometres. This spiritual activity is done by the devotees of Lord Shiva to seek his blessings. Both Chakravarthy and Sundar were seen doing the Girivalam together. The pair were also seen practising some rituals and praying in a temple during their holy walk.

The duo formed part of India’s title-winning squad at the 2026 edition of the tournament, where the Men in Blue created history by becoming the first team to win three T20 World Cup titles. Sundar, however, only managed to play two games in the entire tournament, against the Netherlands in the group stage and against South Africa in the Super Eights.

Chakravarthy, on the other hand, played nine games in the tournament and finished as the side’s joint-highest wicket-taker along with teammate Jasprit Bumrah, with 14 wickets in nine matches. However, towards the end of the tournament, his economy rate was a lot higher than he would have expected. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star ended the campaign with an economy of 9.25.

It is worth mentioning that both Sundar and Chakravarthy will soon join their respective franchises ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League season.

Chakravarthy will still be expected to play a huge role for the KKR side under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane. He did take 17 wickets during the last season, where he played a total of 13 games and bowled at an economy rate of 7.66.

Sundar, on the other hand, will commence his second season with the Gujarat Titans. The all-rounder played only six games for the Ahmedabad-based outfit last time around and would be hoping for a bigger impact in 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
