Indian cricketer Tilak Varma received a rapturous welcome at Hyderabad Airport after steering India to victory in the Asia Cup 2025 final with an unbeaten 69 against Pakistan on September 28 in Dubai. Varma’s brilliant innings in the summit clash played a pivotal role in helping India clinch their ninth Asia Cup title.

Returning to his hometown, Varma was greeted by enthusiastic fans at the airport, who welcomed him to the beat of drums. He was presented with a bouquet while reporters crowded around, eager to hear about his experience in the high-pressure encounter.

In the final, India defeated arch-rivals Pakistan for the third time in the tournament, winning by five wickets. Pakistan posted 146 in their innings, with Sahibzada Farhan top-scoring with 57, while the rest of the batting line-up struggled. Kuldeep Yadav was India’s standout bowler, claiming an amazing four-wicket haul to restrict the opposition.

During India’s chase, Varma’s composed knock anchored the innings, ensuring stability at the crease. The target was ultimately sealed in the final over, with Rinku Singh smashing the winning runs. It was Varma’s match-defining performance that made sure that the Men in Blue crossed the finishing line with a couple of balls to spare.

Following the win, Varma celebrated with unbridled passion, running across the ground in jubilation. His stellar performance earned him the Player of the Match award, capping off a memorable night for the Men in Blue and etching his name further into Indian cricket’s emerging stars.

“It was pressure. They were bowling well. They were mixing the pace up. I was breathing and trying to stay calm. Fantastic knock from Samson. The way Dube batted under pressure was helpful and important for the country. We have prepared for every position. You should be flexible. I was prepared to bat at any position. I was backing my game. When the wickets are on the slower side, I have talked to Gauti sir and have worked hard. One of the most special knocks of my life. This is for all the Indians,” said Varma after the match.
