A video of Rohit Sharma slipping on the stairs of the team bus has drawn wide attention on social media. The incident occurred on the night of September 27, 2026, in Thiruvananthapuram, as the India squad was returning to their hotel after winning the 1st ODI against West Indies.

The clip, shared on X, shows Rohit losing his footing on the bus stairs and falling hard to the ground. Support staff and bystanders present at the scene quickly came to his assistance and helped him back on his feet. No injury has been confirmed from BCCI or from Rohit’s side.

India’s eight-wicket win in the 1st ODI

Rohit, who turned 39 on April 30, 2026, had arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on September 24, ahead of the match. He is a right-handed top-order batter and a former captain of the India national cricket team across all formats. His last ODI before this series had been on July 19, 2026, against England, making this his return to the format after a two-month break.

India had just completed a commanding eight-wicket victory over West Indies in the 1st ODI of the 2026-27 series at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram. The result gave India a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Rohit and Virat Kohli both returned to the ODI squad for this series after that two-month absence.

Speaking about the match, West Indies posted 295/7 in their 50 overs, with John Campbell and Amir Jangoo scoring half-centuries, while Justin Greaves smashed a century. For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the standout bowler, claiming a four-wicket haul. During the chase, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli both scored centuries to guide India to a comfortable eight-wicket victory.

Series schedule and squad context

The India squad for the series is led by Shubman Gill, with KL Rahul serving as vice-captain. West Indies are captained by Shai Hope. Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi received maiden call-ups to the 15-man squad for the series.

The 2nd ODI is scheduled for September 30, 2026, in Guwahati, followed by the 3rd ODI in New Chandigarh on October 3, 2026. The ODI leg of the tour runs until October 17, 2026, with five T20Is to follow once the three-match ODI series concludes.
