Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officially unveiled the national team’s jersey for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Sunday, moments after receiving clearance from the Government of Pakistan to participate in the tournament. The kit launch came after a major political and sporting development, with Pakistan’s decision to boycott their group-stage match against India on February 15.

The jersey unveiling took place shortly after the Pakistani government confirmed that the national team would travel to Sri Lanka for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to run until March 8. However, the approval came with a condition that Pakistan will not take the field for their Group A clash against India on February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The PCB is yet to formally communicate the boycott to the ICC, but the government’s announcement has already triggered strong reactions.

The official kit launch was held at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore following Pakistan’s third T20I against Australia. Initially planned for Saturday, the event was postponed amid uncertainty over Pakistan’s participation in the tournament and went ahead only after government clearance. Captain Salman Ali Agha, along with senior players including Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Abrar Ahmed, displayed the new jersey.

The kit, named the “Vanguard Markhor Edition,” features a light green base with dark green patterns and prominently shows Pakistan’s national animal, the Markhor. A short promotional video released by the PCB showcased themes of resilience and national pride.

ICC responds to Pakistan’s boycott decision

However, Pakistan’s stance on the India match was made by a statement issued on X. The Government of Pakistan said it had approved participation in the tournament but made it clear that the team shall not take the field against India. No official reason was cited for the decision. As per ICC playing conditions, Pakistan will forfeit two points from the match, and their net run rate will also take a hit, while India’s will remain unaffected.

The ICC expressed concern over selective participation in a global event. In its statement, the governing body said such a decision undermines sporting integrity, fairness, and competitiveness. The ICC also warned that the decision could have long-term implications for Pakistan cricket, requesting the PCB to seek a mutually acceptable resolution.
