Former Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Yousuf abused Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav on Pakistan’s national television, using an offensive term while criticising his decision to not shake hands with Pakistan players following India’s victory in Asia Cup 2025.

While discussing the handshake incident, Yousuf repeatedly prefixed Suryakumar’s name with a derogatory word, ignoring the anchor’s attempts to correct him. He further accused India of allowing political motives to influence their conduct on the cricket field and alleged that they pressured match referee Andy Pycroft into taking unethical actions.

“India are unable to get out of their filmy world. All the time, films keep running there in this regard. India should be ashamed of the way they are trying to win – using umpires, torturing (Pakistan) by way of match referee, it is a high note,” said Yousuf on SAMAA TV channel as quoted by The Week.

After refusing to shake hands with Pakistan players, Suryakumar also reiterated his team’s stance during the post-match presentation ceremony and the subsequent press conference.

“Our government and BCCI, we were aligned. Together, we came here, we took a call and I feel we came here just to play the game. And we gave the proper reply. See how it is, I feel a few things in life are ahead of sportsman spirit,” said Suryakumar.

Match referee Pycroft came under scrutiny after reportedly instructing Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha at the toss not to shake hands with Suryakumar. It was later alleged that the Zimbabwean official failed to inform Pakistan’s players about this customised protocol until after the match had concluded.

In response, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi took to X to express his frustration and also filed a formal complaint with the ICC, demanding Pycroft’s removal for the remainder of the tournament. However, the ICC has officially rejected this request.
