Indian vice-captain Rishabh Pant was frustrated with the umpires during Day 3 of the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. The incident occurred around the 60th over when Pant argued for a change of the old ball while pointing out a lack of swing.

But, the umpire denied the request which led Pant to throw the ball in frustration. Jasprit Bumrah also joined the appeal to change the ball, but the officials stood by their decision.

Earlier, India posted a total of 471 runs in the first innings, riding on three brilliant centuries. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 101 off 159 balls, skipper Shubman Gill anchored the innings with a solid 147 off 227, and Pant played a knock of 134 off 178 deliveries.

Despite the strong foundation, India suffered a dramatic collapse on the morning of Day 2, losing seven wickets for just 41 runs. Ben Stokes and Josh Tongue were the standout performers for England and claimed four wickets each.

In response, England’s innings began on a shaky note as Zak Crawley was dismissed cheaply. However, Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope steadied the score with a 122-run stand for the second wicket. Duckett scored 62 before getting out, while Pope went on to complete his century.

On the morning of Day 3, Prasidh Krishna struck early, removing Pope for 106. Despite the early blow, England maintained an aggressive approach. Harry Brook played a key role, building two crucial fifty-plus partnerships with Stokes and Jamie Smith. Brook remained unbeaten at lunch on 57*, while Smith was on 29*.

At the Lunch break on Day 3, England continued to push forward with Brook and Smith at the crease. For India, Bumrah led the bowling attack with three wickets, while Siraj and Krishna chipped in with one wicket each.
