Indian opener KL Rahul brought up his 10th Test century in style but was dismissed immediately after reaching the milestone on Day 3 of the third Test at Lord’s in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. The century was Rahul’s second at Lord’s, as he etched his name once again on the Honours Board at the Home of Cricket in London.

The dismissal came on the first ball of the 68th over, delivered by England’s spinner Shoaib Bashir. Bashir tossed up a flighted delivery, tempting Rahul into a drive. In a rare lapse of concentration, Rahul pushed at the ball a little too firmly, and it dropped in front of him before carrying to Harry Brook at first slip for a comfortable catch. The disappointment was evident on Rahul’s face as he walked back after a valiant three-figure mark.

The third Test remains evenly poised, as India still trail by over 100 runs (at the time of writing) in reply to England’s first-innings total of 387. Joe Root led the charge for the hosts with a composed 104, while Jamie Smith (51) and Brydon Carse (56) added crucial runs in the lower middle order.

The Shubman Gill-led side’s bowling effort was headlined by Jasprit Bumrah, who dismantled England’s batting line-up and returned with figures of 5 for 74. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Mohammed Siraj chipped in with two wickets apiece to wrap up the first innings for the Englishmen.

In response, the visiting side lost Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Karun Nair on Day 2. Rahul and Rishabh Pant revived the innings with a strong 144-run stand for the fourth wicket on the morning of Day 3. Pant played an aggressive knock of 74 before being run out by a brilliant direct hit from England captain Ben Stokes just before lunch. Rahul’s century was the highlight of India’s innings, but his immediate dismissal after reaching the landmark has left the visitors with work to do.
