All-rounder Andre Russell broke down to tears on camera after Kolkata Knight Riders’ third Indian Premier League title in history. The West Indies international joined the KKR family in 2014 but missed the final due to injury, in which they defeated Punjab Kings on the night of the final. Even in 2021, when KKR qualified for the final against Chennai Super Kings, Russell missed out. This is the first time he featured in an IPL final and produced brilliance with the ball as the 36-year-old picked up three wickets.

With the bat, his service was not required as Venkatesh Iyer and Rahmanullah Gurbaz were sensational to get the job done. Iyer smashed 52* runs off 26 balls while Gurbaz scored 39 runs off 32 balls. In the end, skipper Shreyas Iyer did his part as Kolkata defeated Hyderabad by eight wickets at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
