Virender Sehwag broke his silence after a video of him was doing the rounds on social media over the last few days, where it seemed that he called out KS Srikkanth for asking for bribes. In the video, Sehwag said that his coach was told to give INR 5 lakh, and then only the Delhi-born would get selected in the Indian U-19 team.

However, in the original video shared by Sehwag, he clearly mentions that a person who was with Srikkanth had asked for the money. The Nawab of Najafgarh clarified that Srikkanth is a “wonderful and very fair person,”

“Editing acchi thi, intent galat tha (Editing was good, intent was wrong). I clearly said the guy who was with Srikanth called my coach, but it has been edited to make it sound like Srikanth ji called. Sharing both clips real and fake so that there is no confusion. Srikanth ji is genuinely a wonderful and very fair person,” Sehwag wrote in the caption of his video.

Sehwag played for India in the 1998 U-19 World Cup as a spin-bowling all-rounder. He scored 76 runs in six innings and also picked up seven wickets. Legends like Chris Gayle, Shoaib Malik, and Saeed Anwar played in that tournament. England won the final, defeating New Zealand by seven wickets.

Sehwag went on to have a stellar career for India. Many drew parallels between him and Srikkanth as both were aggressive openers. The 47-year-old finished with 8586 runs in 104 Tests and 8273 runs in 251 ODIs. His Test strike rate of 82.24 is the highest for a batter who has played more than 100 Test matches. Sehwag won the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the ODI World Cup in 2011. The right-handed batter also has a phenomenal record in the Indian Premier League, scoring 2728 runs in 104 matches.
