November 5 marks Virat Kohli‘s 38th birthday, and it is a fitting occasion to revisit the innings that define his standing in one-day international cricket. Kohli holds the record for the most centuries by any batter in ODI history, with 55 hundreds to his name, the latest of which came against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27, 2026.

While Sachin Tendulkar remains the all-time leading run-scorer in ODI cricket, Kohli has carved out a legacy of his own through consistency and match-winning knocks across the globe. Here are the three highest scores he has posted in the format.

3. 160* vs South Africa, Newlands, Cape Town (February 7, 2018)

At Newlands, Cape Town, on February 7, 2018, Kohli produced one of the most technically complete ODI innings seen in South Africa. Facing 159 balls, he remained unbeaten on 160 against the hosts in the third ODI of the series. A remarkable feature of the knock was that 100 of his runs came through running between the wickets, comprising 75 singles, 11 twos and one three. This was a testament to Kohli’s magnificent fitness, something that he has taken very seriously for the major part of his career. He also struck 12 fours and 2 sixes. The Men in Blue won that match by 124 runs.

2. 166* vs Sri Lanka, Greenfield Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram (January 15, 2023)

At Greenfield Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram, on January 15, 2023, Kohli anchored India’s innings against Sri Lanka in what was a dress rehearsal ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup. He finished unbeaten on 166 off 110 balls, hitting 13 fours and 8 sixes along the way. India posted a 391-run target in that match, with Kohli’s knock forming the backbone of the total. The series served as important preparation for the World Cup later that year, and Kohli’s contribution underlined his ability to accelerate deep into an innings. The home side won the match by a whopping 317 runs.

1. 183 vs Pakistan, Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, Mirpur (March 18, 2012)

Kohli’s highest ODI score remains the 183 he made against Pakistan at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur during the fifth match of the 2012 Asia Cup on March 18, 2012. He faced 148 balls and struck 22 fours and 1 six in an innings that powered India to a successful chase of a 330-run target with six wickets and 13 balls to spare. The knock stands as the highest individual score in Asia Cup history and is still Kohli’s career-best in the format.
