Virat Kohli celebrates more than any bowler after a wicket, believes India’s World Cup hero

After getting dropped from India’s initial few games in the ODI World Cup, Mohammed Shami bounced back and picked up 24 wickets in seven matches. He finished as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament and also became India’s leading wicket-taker in the history of the competition. Soon after that, Shami was honoured with the Arjuna Award by the Government of India and is currently working on his fitness to make a return to the national team.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview, the star pacer stated that Kohli can’t stop himself from showing his aggression on the field. Shami added that the 35-year-old gets embarrassed when asked about his celebrations on the field and added that he can’t stop doing what he does as being aggressive is in his nature.

“Virat Kohli celebrates more than any bowler after a wicket. I tell him at times that it’s good that you aren’t a bowler. He enjoys himself while doing so. That’s his style of play. It’s in his nature. He can’t stop himself even if he wants to. Once I showed him a picture and asked what is this? He jumped more than the height of the stumps and I said, it’s my wicket brother. He said, leave, forget it (laughs),” Shami said while talking to News18.

I would like to captain team India one day: Shami

Shami expressed his desire to lead team India. Among bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah led the team in England and Ireland, but Shami was never considered for the same role. Speaking about it, the Bengal pacer mentioned that he would love to lead the country someday and added that only an Avatar would deny such an honour.

“Who wouldn’t want (to become India’s captain)? If someone denies to take responsibility as the captain of the national team, he would be an avatar. I would definitely want it. I would want to take some responsibility for my country,” Shami said. 

In the exclusive video, the ace pacer also mentioned that he misses his daughter, who stays with her mother. Shami stated that he gets to talk to her at times but has never met since their divorce.
