Pathum Nissanka‘s flying effort on the field sent the Sri Lankan fans into a frenzy in the T20 World Cup 2026 clash against Australia at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Monday, February 16.
After Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to field first, Australia got off to a flying start thanks to openers Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head. However, the Sri Lankan spinners pulled things back wonderfully through the middle overs.
Glenn Maxwell, who likes to take the attack to the spinners, was looking in ominous touch, and Nissanka gave him a reprieve in the 16th over. However, the opening batter got a chance to redeem himself in the following over, and he made amends.
Dushan Hemantha bowled a flighted delivery on off, and Maxwell nailed the reverse sweep towards backward point. Nissanka took a couple of steps to his left and launched himself into the air. He grabbed the ball with both hands and rolled acrobatically to soften the impact. At the time he took the catch, Nissanka had his body parallel to the ground.
