South African skipper Aiden Markram wasted no time stamping his authority in South Africa’s T20 World Cup 2026 clash against New Zealand, producing a shot of pure class to kickstart the chase.
On just the fifth ball he faced (over 1.1), Lockie Ferguson went full outside off, and Markram made him pay instantly. Bending his back knee gracefully, the Proteas skipper lifted the ball over extra cover.
The timing was sweet and Ferguson’s pace did the rest, carrying it all the way into the stands. It was Markram at his elegant best, displaying a perfect blend of balance, extension, and confidence against one of the quickest bowlers in world cricket.

Markram continued his sensational knock by reaching his half-century in emphatic fashion. Mitchell Santner tossed one full outside off, and Markram did not miss out, as he reached forward with complete control and lofted the ball straight down the ground before raising his bat.
