Varun Chakravarthy takes fresh dig at Pakistan with ‘Tea Cup’ photograph after T20 World Cup triumph

Varun Chakravarthy posted a photo on Instagram which once again has fans speculating and talking about its connotations and meanings.

India lifted the T20 World Cup trophy for the third time, becoming the first team to do so, hammering New Zealand by 96 runs. Put into bat, India put on a whopping 255/5 with runs from Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Tilak Varma. They then skittled New Zealand for 159, becoming the first team to defend the T20 World Cup and the first host-nation to win the trophy.

In a carousel post on Instagram, one photograph has the Indian spinner posing standing with the T20 World Cup trophy, sipping out of a coffee cup. Fans suspect this is once more a dig at the Pakistan cricket team and the debacle from the 2025 Asia Cup.

Chakravarthy had posted a similar picture after India beat Pakistan in the final of the 2025 Asia Cup. Due to tensions between the two countries, the Indian players refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council Chairman and Pakistan Internal Minister Mohsin Naqvi. This led to them returning home without the trophy.

The next day, Chakravarthy posted a photo lying in bed with a coffee cup placed beside him. He later explained in an interview that the cup was a substitute for the trophy, with which he originally wanted to click the same picture.

“I knew we were going to win. After the second match, I was sure that if we met them in the final, we would win. So I had planned everything-I planned to sleep with the cup next to me and take a photo. But after the match, there was nothing next to me. There was only a coffee cup, so I went ahead with that,” he elaborated.

The mystery spinner finished as the joint-highest wicket taker in the 2026 T20 World, with 14 scalps, but they came at an economy of 9.25 (287 runs in 31 overs), highlighting the unconvincing nature of his campaign.
