Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians will be hoping for a new start under a new leader in the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Rohit Sharma’s decade-long captaincy era of Mumbai Indians came to an end as MI management traded in Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans. Hardik Pandya was then named captain of the franchise for IPL 2024.
Mumbai Indians had finished last in IPL 2022 and in IPL 2023, Rohit Sharma valiantly pushed the team into the playoffs despite his poor batting form and an ineffective fast bowling unit devoid of both Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer. But this time they will have a very good batting lineup and we take a look at 3 such batters who are expected to do wonders for MI in IPL 2024.

3. Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma was bought by Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2022 auction after he had come from a victorious U19 World Cup campaign for India. He had an excellent debut season and since then, he has scored 740 runs in 25 matches for MI in IPL. He has hit 3 fifties with a best score of 84* at an average of 38.94 and a strike rate of 144.53.
These performances helped Tilak Varma make his India debut in white-ball cricket and the left-hander will hope that another brilliant season for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, will earn him a spot in T20 World Cup 2024 India squad. He has shined in both top order and as a finisher and one more consistent performance will be a huge boost to his confidence.
2. Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav will miss a part of the IPL 2024 as he recovers from his ankle injury. He underwent surgery in Germany for the same and has been recovering since then. He will soon begin his rehab at the NCA. But his return time is unknown at the moment and the MI team management and fans are hoping for the best.
Suryakumar was the vice-captain of the MI side under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and it was a surprise that Hardik Pandya was named a captain despite the presence of Surya. Meanwhile, Suryakumar boasts of a good record for MI with 2641 runs in 85 matches with one century and 20 fifties. His strike rate is 146.23 and he has hit 91 sixes and 295 fours for the blue team.

Former MI captain Rohit Sharma will be without the burden of captaincy and will have time to focus on his batting alone. This will make him a dangerous entity, as well. He recently scored a fifth T20I century, which came against Afghanistan, and IPL 2024 will be a rehearsal for him for T20 World Cup 2024. Expect the India captain to try new things without the expectations of leading MI this year.
Rohit Sharma is the highest run-getter for MI in IPLs with 5041 runs in 198 matches. He has hit one century and 34 fifties at an average of 29.30 and a strike rate of 129.75. Rohit has hammered 206 sixes and 458 fours in his IPL career for Mumbai Indians.
