India will take on Sri Lanka in the second semi-final of the men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games 2026 on Thursday, October 1. The match will be played at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan, with the winner progressing to the gold medal match. India enter the contest as the defending champions, while Sri Lanka will be aiming to book their place in the final.

The conditions at Korogi Sports Park could once again test the batters, with the surface expected to offer assistance to spinners. India will therefore need their experienced batters to adapt quickly, while Sri Lanka will also look towards their senior players to handle the conditions.

Here are the top 3 batters to watch out for in IND vs SL, 2nd SF of the Asian Games 2026:

3. Shreyas Iyer

Indian captain Shreyas Iyer will be one of the key batters to watch out for in the second semi-final. The right-hander has already shown his ability to handle difficult conditions during India’s recent one-off T20I against Japan.

Iyer played an important knock in the rain-shortened contest at the Sano International Cricket Ground. With India struggling at 14/3, he stayed at the crease and tried to build the innings rather than taking unnecessary risks. He eventually scored 16 off 12 balls as India posted 32/4 in their five overs. Iyer was subsequently named the Player of the Match as India secured a narrow two-run win.

As captain and one of India’s most experienced batters in the squad, Iyer’s role becomes even more important in a knockout game. If India lose early wickets, his ability to control the innings and build a partnership could be crucial.

2. Niroshan Dickwella

Niroshan Dickwella brings considerable experience to the Sri Lankan batting lineup and will be another batter to watch closely. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter is known for his attacking approach and has the ability to put pressure on bowlers from the beginning of his innings.

Dickwella is particularly capable of taking on spin, which could be an important factor in these conditions. With the Korogi Sports Park surface expected to be on the slower side, Sri Lanka could need their experienced batters to find ways of scoring against India’s spin options.

The veteran batter can disrupt a bowling attack by using his attacking strokeplay and keeping the scoreboard moving. Against a strong Indian bowling unit, Sri Lanka may not get many opportunities to settle into the innings, making Dickwella’s ability to score quickly particularly important.

His experience in pressure situations could also prove valuable for Sri Lanka in a knockout game. If he gets going in the powerplay, he can give the Sri Lankan middle order a strong platform to build on.

1. Abhishek Sharma

Abhishek Sharma is another Indian batter who could have a major impact in the semi-final. The left-hander has established himself as one of India’s most aggressive batters in T20 cricket and has the ability to change the game within a few overs.

Abhishek is known for taking the attack to the opposition in the powerplay. His ability to find boundaries against both pace and spin makes him an important part of India’s batting plans, particularly on a surface where scoring freely could be challenging.

While he was dismissed for a first-ball duck against Japan, the Indian opener remains a major threat because of his recent form and aggressive style in the shortest format.
