Tom Taylor signs four-year contract with Worcestershire

Newly appointed Worcestershire’s chief executive Ashley Giles has made a blockbuster acquisition by signing Tom Taylor for a four-year contract. Upon Giles’ arrival, three homegrown players, in the form of Jack Haynes, Dillon Pennington and Josh Tongue left the club as they ran out of contract, while recently Pat Brown and Ben Fox joined Derbyshire and Leicestershire, respectively. Hence, Giles was under tremendous pressure but has done a commendable job so far.

Other than bringing Tom Taylor to Worcestershire, Giles has also signed Rob Jones and Ethan Brookes. Notably, Tom was impressive in the One-Day Cup, hitting two centuries. Even with the ball, he was really good as the cricketer picked up 18 wickets in the T20 Blast, earlier in the year.

“We’re absolutely delighted to sign a player of Tom’s all-round quality for the next four years. It says much about the club and where we are aiming to go when someone is prepared to commit themselves for such an extended period,” Giles was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Meanwhile, the Worcestershire head coach, Alan Richardson, too, has expressed his delight after getting Tom on board. He added saying that the all-rounder was on their radar for quite a long time and hence, is delighted to finally have him in the mix. He lauded the cricketer saying that he is a three-facet player and believes that the cricketer can make a great impact.

“Tom has been on my radar for quite a while… We are getting someone who has really good, three-facet skills in all formats. We feel it is quite a coup to get Tom to come over and play for us,” Richardson mentioned.

On the other hand, Northamptonshire CEO Ray Payne has expressed his disappointment to see Tom leave the club. However, he wished him all the luck in the next stage of his career.

“It’s disappointing Tom has chosen to move on. I’d like to thank Tom for his efforts over the past three years and wish him well for the next stages of his career,” Payne mentioned.
