‘Time will tell how much I know about cricket’ – Mohsin Naqvi hits back at critics, promises to deliver

The PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently came forward and lambasted his critics, stating that he is in the position of chairman n to deliver and is not worried in the least about what his detractors think of his knowledge about the game.

He made the statement after he got furious over a journalist’s question about his knowledge of the sport. He also talked about how an advisory board headed by Waqar Younis would be forming soon. 

“Time will tell how much I know about cricket, but we are here to deliver. I don’t care about what people say but you will see the results, I am bringing in former stars to vet and improve the cricket system and end this culture of personal likes and dislikes,” Naqvi was quoted as saying by News18.

Naqvi also came forward to announce the launch of a new domestic structure, which he said would be made part of the constitution. He stated that it will be launched in September 2024 and revolve around five teams, which will include 30 players each. 

“We will vet this new domestic structure into the constitution as well so that in future it cannot be changed, Each team will be supervised by a reputable former stalwart and he will be given three years to manage and get results. Each team will have a support staff of some 10 people including coaches,” Naqvi said. 

Furthermore, Waqar Younis, who was also at the briefing stated that he agreed and was looking forward to the various changes. “We will appoint five legends to head the teams and I am already in touch with some of them, Cricket remains our product and we have to play good cricket to maintain our brand. All rest comes later,” he said.

The PCB stated that a total of 261 matches in all formats would be held in the men’s senior events throughout the season which will be held from September 2024 to August 2025. The 261 matches will include 131 first-class games, 40 50-over matches and 90 T20 fixtures.
