Tim David out of remaining BBL with hamstring strain; Nathan Lyon to miss remainder of domestic season

Cricket Australia has confirmed that Nathan Lyon will miss the remainder of the domestic season. Lyon had picked up a high-grade right hamstring injury while fielding on Day 5 of the third Test of the ongoing Ashes. He underwent a successful surgical operation on December 23. However, Lyon is set to miss the season due to the seriousness of the blow. His return to action will be assessed based on his progression during his rehabilitation programme.

Australian Test and ODI skipper Pat Cummins, who was recently ruled out of the concluded fourth and upcoming fifth Test of the Ashes after missing the first two matches, will be undergoing a planned stint of workload management. He is currently recovering from a back injury. Cummins will undergo scheduled imaging over the coming weeks.

Seamer Josh Hazlewood has returned to normal sprints and running. He is recovering from a hamstring injury in addition to soreness in the Achilles region. Hazlewood’s rehabilitation is understood to be on track and he will most probably be available for the T20 World Cup in February and March next year.

Middle-order batter Tim David has been ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing Big Bash League due a recent Grade Two right hamstring strain. He injured his hamstring while running between the wickets during Hobart Hurricanes’ clash against Perth Scorchers. David will be in a race against time to be available for selection for the mega event in India and Sri Lanka next year.

Australiaenter the fifth Test of the ongoing Ashes while leading via a 3-1 margin. The hosts are scheduled to play the final game at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 4. The BBL in which quite a few prominent Australian cricketers are playing, is slated to conclude on January 25.
