Suryakumar Yadav was appointed captain for the ongoing T20I series between India and Australia and the flamboyant batter has done a commendable job so far, taking his team to a 2-0 lead with three games to go.

Suryakumar has received praise from cricket experts for some of his field settings and bowling changes during the course of the first two games in Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram. Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna didn’t have a great start to the series but bounced back strongly in the second game. After the match, the Karnataka cricketer praised Suryakumar’s captaincy and said that his leadership style is quite similar to how he bats.

“I think it shows in the way he (Suryakumar) bats is very similar in his captaincy as well. He trusts his players, backs all of us to do what we want to do and he’s there right behind us to support if there’s anything going wrong,” Krishna was quoted as saying by India Today.

“That’s been the name of the game and then that’s the word around freedom, go and execute your plans out there and everyone trusts each other in the team.”

Being a part of the World Cup squad was massive learning for me: Prasidh Krishna

The 27-year-old replaced Hardik Pandya in India’s ODI World Cup 2023 squad after the star all-rounder injured himself during India’s fourth game against Bangladesh. While Krishna didn’t get a game in the showpiece event where the ‘Men in Blue’ lost to Australia in the finals, the right-arm pacer mentioned how he benefitted from being a part of the squad.

“Being a part of the World Cup squad was massive learning for me. That’s the biggest learning curve I’ve had since I’ve been a part of the team. I got to learn a lot the way people prepare the amount of information that you can take, looking at the surface, the situation, the condition, the batsman and all of those things,” Krishna said after picking up three wickets in a high-scoring clash between India and Australia in the second T20I at the Greenfield Stadium.

After being sent in to bat first, India posted 235/4 in their 20 overs thanks to fifties from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ishan Kishan and a whirlwind cameo from Rinku Singh. In reply, Australia lost wickets at regular intervals and some fireworks from Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, and Matthew Wade delayed the inevitable as the tourists lost by 44 runs to give India a commanding 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
