Matt Henryis set to replace the injured Chris Woakes in Welsh Fire for the remainder of The Hundred Men’s 2025. Woakes was recently ruled out of the tournament following a dislocated shoulder. He had suffered this nasty injury while fielding on the first day of the final Test of the recent England-India Test series at The Oval.

Henry will join the Fire’s setup after the conclusion of the ongoing second Test of the series between Zimbabwe and New Zealand. He has been in fine form with the ball across formats. The right-arm quick has registered figures of 6/39, 3/51 and 5/40 in the three innings he has bowled so far against Zimbabwe.

He also played an active part in New Zealand’s tri-series triumph against South Africa and Zimbabwe before the ongoing Test series. The 33-year-old emerged as the leading wicket-taker with 10 wickets in four innings while conceding runs at an economy rate of 8.47 in the tri-series.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time Henry will be representing Welsh Fire in the 100-ball competition, as he has played eight matches previously (two in 2023 and six in 2024), securing 11 wickets in total. Henry has maintained a stellar economy rate (4.62 in 2023 and 7.25 in 2024) in the tournament.

Welsh Fire lost their opening match of the season to Northern Superchargers by eight wickets and 11 deliveries to spare. Being put in to bat first, they got to 143/9 on the back of a quickfire 23-ball 43 from wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow. However, they were outdone by Zak Crawley’s unbeaten 67-run knock off 38 balls. Riley Meredith (2/33 in 20 balls) took both the wickets of the opposition.
