‘Target is definitely clear’ – Litton Das eyes Asian Games final with Bangladesh

Bangladesh captain Litton Das has expressed confidence in his team’s preparation ahead of the Asian Games 2026 men’s cricket tournament in Japan. The squad, named by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, will depart Dhaka on September 24 in two separate groups. Das and his teammates have undergone fitness and skill sessions along with two practice matches to build their readiness for the competition.

The Bangladesh team’s last T20I series took place in Zimbabwe, where they secured a 2-1 victory. Following that series, the squad conducted two practice matches to sharpen their skills and strengthen team bonding. The second practice match was held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday, September 23, providing valuable match practice before the tournament begins.

“I feel we are very well prepared, and the target is definitely clear. Since we are going into a tournament, we want to reach the final and hopefully do something good there,” Das said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Preparation and squad readiness

Das highlighted how the practice matches have strengthened the team’s cohesion after their Zimbabwe series. The captain believes the preparation phase has been thorough and has given the squad the platform they need to compete effectively at the Asian Games.

“The preparation has been very good. We have had the opportunity to play two practice games after a long time. As you know, our last T20I series was in Zimbabwe, so these practice games have given us an opportunity to build our bonding as a team,” Das said.

The Bangladesh captain emphasised the importance of this rare opportunity and the eagerness within the squad to perform at the continental event. Players are keen to make the most of a tournament that does not occur frequently in the cricket calendar.

“Of course, everyone will have expectations. In fact, as a player, I will also go there expecting to do something good. One thing I can say is that our players are very eager to play this tournament because it does not come around every year,” Das said.

Bangladesh’s campaign at the Asian Games will begin with a direct quarter-final match on September 29. The team has also been monitoring the women’s cricket matches at the Asian Games to gather information about the playing conditions in Nagoya. Bangladesh won the gold medal in men’s cricket at the 2010 Asian Games, which remains the country’s sole gold at the Games. At the previous Asian Games edition, Bangladesh secured the bronze medal, with India claiming gold and Sri Lanka taking silver.
