Batting first, the two-time champions posted 165/6 in 20 overs. Captain Shai Hope led from the front with a 75 off 46 balls, anchoring the innings after losing a few early wickets. Though Italy managed to pull things back in the middle overs, late contributions ensured the team reached a decent total.
In reply, Italy never looked in the hunt. Matthew Forde’s wickets in the powerplay put the opposition under pressure, while Shamar Joseph delivered a standout performance, claiming four wickets as Italy were bowled out for 123 in 18 overs.

West Indian skipper Shai Hope was the sole bright spot in the team’s batting innings. The right-handed batter smashed 75 off 46 balls, studded with six boundaries and four sixes, playing at a strike rate of 163.04. While wickets were falling at one end, he made sure to hold on to the other side and took his team to a total of 165 in their allotted 20 overs.

Right-arm pacer Matthew Fordelooked clinical with the ball in hand. Forde finished with figures of 3/19 in his quota of four overs and helped the Windies restrict the opposition to a score of 123. His victims included Justin Mosca, Syed Naqvi, and Gian-Piero Meade. Shamar Joseph was equally brilliant, bagging a four-wicket haul, as the duo shared seven wickets between them.

- Meade and Ben Manenti set a new Italy record for the seventh wicket with a 12-run partnership, eclipsing the earlier mark of one.
- Kalugamage and Thomas Draca registered Italy’s highest ninth-wicket stand (8 runs) in Men’s T20 World Cup history.
- Ali Hasan recorded his third duck in Men’s T20 World Cups, the most for Italy, overtaking Meade’s two.
- India lead the six-hitting charts at the T20 World Cup 2026 with 40 maximums, ahead of England (36), West Indies (36), Italy (34) and USA (33).
- Shamar Joseph equalled the record for most catches (4) by a non-wicketkeeper in a T20 World Cup match during WI vs ITA in Kolkata.

Hope has been a crucial member of the West Indies’ batting line-up for a few years, and he displayed his experience in this innings. After having lost a few wickets, he made sure to keep the scoring board ticking and took the team to a par total.
