India captain Suryakumar Yadav has provided an important update regarding Tilak Varma and Washington Sundar‘s respective injuries. The duo is all set to feature for the Men in Blue in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, and their match-readiness cannot be confirmed as of now. However, Suryakumar believes that both the players will be ready for the challenge before their opening game on February 7.

The skipper revealed that he had a word with both the players and provided assurance that the two are recovering quite well. Tilak has already started batting practice in the nets and also played a match simulation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. On the other hand, Washington is due to hit the field very soon, as revealed by the 35-year-old.

“I think Washington Sundar is also doing well. We spoke to both of them (Tilak Varma and Washington Sundar) yesterday (Friday). Tilak is much better. Washington has almost started his bowling and batting. So he is also looking good. Hopefully, we get him back soon,” Suryakumar revealed during the post-match press conference.

Both Tilak and Washington will be playing key roles for the team’s title defence in the marquee T20 tournament. Tilak will be forming part of India’s top order, bolstering the batting unit, whereas the Tamil Nadu cricketer will have a defined role to contribute in multiple departments with his all-round prowess.

The Indian team will be opening their campaign at the twenty-team tournament on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against the United States of America. They will then face Namibia on February 12 in New Delhi before travelling all the way to Colombo for the epic clash against arch-rivals Pakistan. Their last league stage match will see Suryakumar & Co. cross swords with the Netherlands in Ahmedabad on February 18.
