England will be taking on New Zealand in a blockbuster Super 8 encounter of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The match will be played at the R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on February 27.

With already through to the semifinals with two wins in the Super 8, this match will provide England a chance to test themselves against a quality opponent.

New Zealand, on the other hand, need a win to book their spot in the semifinals. They are coming off after an impressive performance against co-hosts Sri Lanka at the same venue. They won the match by 61-runs against the Lankans, whereas their first Super 8 clash against Pakistan was washed out due to rain.

With both teams boasting of several match winners in their strides, the battle will be filled with some top-quality contest.

Here are the top-3 player battles in England vs New Zealand, match 49

The battle of the powerplay will be the one to watch out for as England’s premium fast bowler Jofra Archer will go one-on-one against Rachin Ravindra. After disappointing outings in the first few matches, Archer has found his mojo back, and that has boosted England’s confidence a little.

In six matches so far, he has picked up 10 wickets. Rachin, too, has started to return to his best, despite having mixed outings in the first few matches. He is also coming off after a match-winning all-round performance against Sri Lanka. Archer and Ravindra are yet to face each other in a competitive T20 game.

2. Will Jacks vs Glenn Phillips

The battle of the all-rounders will pit Will Jacks against Glenn Philips. Jacks has been in a breathtaking form in this tournament, picking up a staggering three Player of the Match awards already for the Three Lions. He has been the main man for them with the bat, especially in the death overs.

But, up against him will be Kiwis’ enigmatic Phillips. With the Colombo pitch assisting the spinners well, the New Zealander can pose a threat to Jacks with his sharp off-spin.
