T20 World Cup 2026: Ian Bishop lays by boundary ropes to report dew at Wankhede during WI vs ENG match

The T20 World Cup 2026 clash between West Indies and England at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium witnessed former West Indies pacer and commentator Ian Bishop inspecting the dew situation himself by laying down in the ground.

With heavy pre-match discussion around dew potentially influencing the contest, Bishop walked out of the commentary box and headed toward the boundary ropes at long-on. He lay down on the turf, almost as if he were in bed, and felt the grass to assess how much moisture had settled in. After his inspection, Bishop reported that there wasn’t as much dew as typically expected in Mumbai conditions. 

Meanwhile, in the game, England captain Harry Brook had opted to bowl first after winning the toss, citing records that favored chasing at the venue, particularly with dew expected to aid batting under lights. Shai Hope admitted that West Indies would have bowled first too, but stressed the need to set the tone with the bat. However, despite the dew expected to play a huge role, Hope later mentioned that the conditions did not see as much dew as anticipated.

West Indies recovered brilliantly after a disastrous start of 8 for 2. Sherfane Rutherford anchored the innings with an unbeaten 76 off 42 balls, stitching partnerships with Jason Holder and Rovman Powell. The Caribbean team posted 196 for 6, scoring 66 runs in the final five overs.

England’s chase began explosively. Phil Salt hammered 30 off 14 balls as England raced to 67 for 1 in the Powerplay. However, Gudakesh Motie produced a match-winning 3 for 33, removing Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell, and Harry Brook. Roston Chase supported him superbly with 2 for 29, including the wicket of Jos Buttler. Despite Sam Curran’s fighting 43 not out, England were bowled out for 166 in 19 overs, handing West Indies a 30-run victory.
