South Africa defeated India comprehensively in match No. 43 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, February 22.
After Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to bat first, South Africa lost three wickets in four overs. However, David Miller and Dewald Brevis forged a magnificent 97-run stand off 50 balls for the fourth wicket. They didn’t allow the Indian bowlers to build pressure despite them picking up three wickets with the new ball.
Brevis took his time in the middle, getting accustomed to the conditions. On the other hand, Miller went after the bowlers from ball one. Shivam Dube broke the partnership as Brevis departed for 45 off 29 balls. Miller and Tristan Stubbs took the attack to the Indian bowlers during the back end of the innings before the former was dismissed for a 35-ball 63.
Marco Jansen and Corbin Bosch couldn’t do much damage and it was Tristan Stubbs who played a magnificent knock in the death overs to help the Proteas finish on 187/7 in 20 overs. The latter finished unbeaten on 44 off 24 balls.
In reply, Aiden Markram dismissed Ishan Kishan in the first over itself. Tilak Varma also followed him in the following over. Abhishek Sharma finally got off the mark but couldn’t bat long. He was dismissed by Marco Jansen after Corbin Bosch took a fantastic catch.
Washinton Sundar was promoted to No. 5 and along with Suryakumar, tried to resurrect the ship. However, the partnership added only 17 runs off as many balls.
Sundar and Suryakumar departed in quick succession before Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube tried to take India towards an unforgettable win. However, both the batters couldn’t accelerate as much as they would have liked. The South African bowlers and fielders were also on fire, making India work hard for each run.
In the end, Dube fought a lone battle before getting out for a 37-ball 42. The Men in Blue were dismissed for 111 in 18.5 overs. Jansen was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged a four-for.
