Stats: Kuldeep Yadav completes 100 wickets in IPL

Kuldeep Yadav sent an in-form Ryan Rickelton packing in the crucial Mumbai Indians (MI) versus Delhi Capitals (DC) clash at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday, May 21.

The left-arm wrist spinner was introduced into the attack in the seventh over. Kuldeep created a chance off the third ball he bowled as Suryakumar Yadav’s sweep took a top-edge that went to the left of Mukesh Kumar at short fine-leg. Mukesh scampered and put in a full-stretch dive but could not get his hands to the ball. Kuldeep would have felt hard done by as he almost gave his team a huge breakthrough. However, he did not have to wait long to celebrate the fall of a wicket.

Off the following delivery, Rickelton attempted a slog sweep, but the ball hit the bottom half of the bat. Debutant Madhav Tiwari moved swiftly to his right from deep square leg and held onto an excellent catch as the South African wicketkeeper-batter was dismissed for 25 after facing 18 balls.

This was Kuldeep’s 100th wicket in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He became the 29th bowler and 11th spinner to enter the 100 wickets club. The Uttar Pradesh spinner reached the milestone in his 97th game. Among spinners, Amit Mishra and Varun Chakaravarthy are the joint-fastest, having bagged 100 wickets in 83 games. Yuzvendra Chahal, the leading wicket-taker in IPL history, achieved the feat in 84 matches.

Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav begin MI’s resurgence

When Rickelton was dismissed, MI had 58 runs on the board, having lost three wickets in 6.4 overs. Rohit Sharma and Will Jacks were dismissed earlier in the innings, for five and 21, respectively. Since then, Suryakumar and Tilak Varma batted watchfully, trying to set up a platform for a strong finish.  With the likes of Hardik Pandya, Naman Dhir, and Mitchell Santner to follow, MI will look to finish strongly.
