Stats: Deepti Sharma overtakes Megan Schutt to become highest wicket-taker in WT20Is

Deepti Sharma had a sweet end to 2025, becoming the highest wicket-taker in Women’s T20Is, after her spell against Sri Lanka during the fifth match at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, December 30. Her outing of 1-28 in the final match of the series, where she got the big fish of Nilakshika Silva, made her climb the Mount Everest, getting her 152nd wicket in the shortest format.

The record for most wickets in the format was previously held by Australia bowler Megan Schutt, who has 151 wickets in 123 matches for her side. Deepti had already equalled the record during the third T20I, but had to wait for the game on Tuesday to add yet another feather to her illustrious cap. Deepti and Schutt are followed by Nida Dar (144 wickets), Henriette Ishimwe of Rwanda (144 wickets), and Sophie Eccelestone (142 wickets) to make the top five.

The Agra-born was also the highest wicket-taker in the five match series, where the Women in Blue completed a 5-0 whitewash over the Lankan Lionesses. The all-rounder did not get a lot of opportunities to bat in the series, but did best in whatever she could with her off-spin, claiming five wickets in just four innings. Her best performance came in the third match, where the figures read 3-18 in her four overs.

Deepti made her debut in the format against Australia in 2016, and since then, she has become an indispensable part of the Indian line-up. Having played 133 matches in T20Is, she has maintained an exceptional economy rate of 6.12, making her a lethal bowling option across different phases of the innings.

In 2025, she scalped 14 wickets in just nine matches, playing a crucial role in her side’s success in the calendar year. With the T20 World Cup coming in June 2026, Deepti will be looking to add a few more accolades to her name, this time in 2026.
