Prakash Kapde, a State Reserve Police Force jawan (SRPF), has allegedly shot himself dead at his native home in Jamner town. He was one of the security personnel deployed for the security of Indian cricket legend, Sachin Tendulkar. Kapde had taken a brief vacation to his ancestral place and reportedly shot himself in the neck.

A thorough investigation is being undertaken as he was assigned to VVIP Tendulkar. The security for the former India batter is assigned as he is also the recipient of the coveted Bharat Ratna award, the highest civilian award of the country. Kapde is survived by his wife and two children. The incident is reported to have taken place around 1:30 AM in the morning and the probe surrounding the mishap is under investigation.

“As per preliminary investigations, he may have taken the extreme step owing to certain personal reasons, but we are waiting for the full details of the probe,” Senior Police Inspector of Jamner Police Station Kiran Shinde said as quoted by NDTV.

Tendulkar’s security was downgraded in 2019

The body of the 39-year-old jawan has been taken for the postmortem examination. The police have filed a case under accidental death circumstances. However, the investigation is underway as family members and close aids will come under scrutiny. On the other hand, SRPF will reportedly take matters into consideration and will carry an independent investigation to come to the conclusion.

In 2019, Tendulkar’s security was downgraded from ‘Z’ to ‘X’. The Z security meant that the former cricketer’s home was guarded by a policeman for 24 hours. Maharashtra government had analysed the threat perception to some VIPs and as a result, Tendulkar was provided with X security. The X security cover sees the former Rajya Sabha member accompanied by the policemen when he leaves his home.
